Greetings King Street Toastmasters,



Wow – I counted seven guests today (four were returning, two visited because they saw our sign and were curious, and the other is our new Division Governor). It just keeps getting better!!!



Today we heard an East Indian folk tale from yours truly and Teresa Bzdek shared with us her experience racing in Saturday’s National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Team in Training” program in Alaska. Way to go, Teresa!!!



This was followed by an awards ceremony for those who accomplished milestones over the past six months (Sheila George, CTM; Kimberly Hunt; CTM; and Sarah Gagnon, CL). Gwen Whipple, our Area Governor, led an inspiring induction ceremony for our new officers followed by wonderful food and fellowship (thanks to everyone who brought goodies!).



Here are our roles for next week (6-29-2006). If you cannot attend, please refer to an unassigned member. Phone numbers are provided for your convenience. Be certain to let the Toastmaster, Charlie Peters, know of any changes. In addition, one opportunity exists: Educational Moment. Please let Charlie know whether you can take this role.



Today marked my last meeting as your V.P. Education. I have handed the baton, as it were, to Kimberly Hunt. Kimberly will be sending weekly meeting reminders, schedule updates, and club contest information.

June 15th King Street Toastmasters Meeting

Greetings King Street Toastmasters,

We had a good meeting today (five guests: Chaz from Colorado, David and Eric from Toastmasters Wallingford, Joyce and Stacy from an architect firm around the corner!). Gwen tickled our funny bones about administering tests to those who wish to own cell phones, and Charlie argued his points for “re-electing no one”. Our thanks to Eric Likkel who served as one of our evaluators!

For next week’s Table Topics, we will have fun introducing each other (thanks Jon and Gwen for the great idea!). Here’s the idea:

If you wrote a book, what would the jacket cover say about you? (career, past accomplishments, personal life) In other words, if you were invited to speak at a conference, why should the audience listen to you? Please compose your biography and email to me by COB Wednesday, June 21.



The idea is for one member to introduce the other based on this biography. Each of us will have 30 seconds or so to determine which facts are most relevant and compose an exciting introduction for that person. It should be fast-paced fun! This will also serve as a type of team building/icebreaker for our group. Here are some links to reference:

Hello King Street Toastmasters,

We had a good but abbreviated meeting today (another group needed the room by 1:00 pm). Stephanie gave her Ice Breaker (job well done!) and Teresa tickled our funny bones with her speech “Instruments of Torture” (my feet still ache). We had two guests check out our Club, and we hope to see them again very soon.

Greetings fellow King Street Toastmasters,

We had an enjoyable meeting yesterday! Nathan talked about his rollercoaster day and Caroline told us a little about her family. Gwen passed the bubbly (sparking cider) and we practiced our toasts (Everyone really enjoyed that!). The meeting ended with time to spare so we noshed (many thanks to everyone who brought goodies!) and bid our fond farewells (great meeting theme!) to Caroline.

Hello fellow King Street Toastmasters,

We had a fantastic meeting today with Caroline’s theme of “Fairs and Festivals: Mt. St. Helen’s Eruption”, Gwen’s speech based on the book “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz, and Sheila’s speech, “Bike it, you’ll like it!” Congratulations to Sheila George on qualifying for CTM!

Here are the roles for next week’s meeting (5-25-2006). We are in need of someone to take “Educational Moment” and “Listener”. Please let our energetic Toastmaster, Jon Evans, know if you are interested. If you are scheduled and cannot make the meeting, please find a succedaneum*.

Today Caroline Edwards announced her retirement after 21 years with King County. Next week will be her last day at King Street Toastmasters. We will miss her and encourage her to visit us often (and bring hubby, too!).

A Toastmaster gave me the attached protocol information to share with our Club. It contains tips on running our meetings more professional. Please keep it handy for future reference.

I hope to see all of us next week! Don’t forget to sign the food/beverage sheet for our “Milestone Celebration and New Officer Induction Ceremony” scheduled for Thursday, June 22!

Election Day

Today we elected the executive officers for the coming year.

Here is the list of newly elected officials:
Club President - Jon Fleming
VP Education - Kimberly Hunt, CTM
VP Membership - Nathan Brown
VP PR - Teresa Bzdek
Treasurer - Jack Buce
Secretary - Sheila George
Sarg. At Arms - Charlie Peters

Notes on executive officer roles:

President - provides leadership and guidance the club needs to ber successful and leads each club meeting, and sets the tone and pace of the meeting.
VP Education - has overall responsibility for the club meeting programs. This person plans all regular and special club meetings and events. They also prepare the meeting schedule for the term.
VP Membership - responsible for bringing new members into the club and ensuring that the club always has a minimum of 20 members.
VP PR - responsible for persuading guests to join the club and attracting guests to the meeting through publicity, public relations and through keeping members informed of happenings in the club.
Treasurer - keeps clear and accurate financial records of club business and sees that the club remains financially stable. They also are authorized to be a signer on the club bank account.
Secretary - responsible for keeping clear and accurate records of club meetings and club business, including membership records and correspondence.
